The Arcata School District recently transitioned from "at-large" school board elections to "trustee-area" elections. As a result, district boundaries were divided into five trustee areas, with one representative of each area to be seated on the Board of Trustees. Currently one Board member seat (trustee area 4) will be on the November 2020 election ballot, and two other seats (trustee areas 3 and 5) will be vacated on December 10 and filled by appointment.
The District is seeking qualified applicants for trustee areas 3 and 5. Those interested who live in these trustee areas and are at least 18 years of age and registered to vote are invited to submit a board member application. The application deadline is Wednesday, October 21 at 4:30 p.m. To determine which trustee area you live in, use the interactive map located on the website under Board of Trustees - Board Members. Call the District Office with any questions at (707) 822-0351, extension 4.
For more details about becoming a school board member in trustee areas 3 and 5, please read the "Letter from the Superintendent - Open School Board Positions" below. An application is attached to the letter, and can also be found on the website under Board of Trustees - Board Members.
